#3 Progress on drinklytics and social media missing strategy

#3 update

As the development goes on and my tasks get done, my BIP journey also evolves.
At the time of speaking I am at 88% of my goal, here if you want to know more.

Communication

My initial plan for build in public was to blog about the development of Drinklytics and to use social networks (twitter and mastodon, maybe others) to share progress. So I started using social networks more.

I decided to set up a content plan for social media, to ensure I post consistently.

My goal was to not depend solely on the frequency of my blog posts to share my bip journey.

This led me to ask myself why I was using social networks. They should help me maintaining focus, but they should also help me reach my potential users and create a community around the product.

In my few social posts, I used the main buildinpublic and dev hashtags, but people using them seem quite focused on sharing their work and building a personal brand then interacting with others.

Let me be clear, that’s totally fine.

If I want to create a group around my app, I need to interact differently within the BIP community, and consider reaching other groups as well.

The only thing I know is that I don’t want to tweet just for tweeting, just because I have to.

That would be a waste of time. I should reach users potentially interested in my app while sharing my updates.

I need to dedicate more time to this, but development should have priority right now.

What I did

On the last week I focused on creating the intro screen that will manage:

I am still struggling with managing the locale between my screens, but I should solve it this week.

For product analytics, my main goal has been to manage the initialization of Mixpanel.
Mixpanel is one of the leading platforms for product analytics. It offers a great free tier, excellent for side projects like mine.

I opted it out by default, allowing people to choose on the intro screen and in the settings screen if they want to enable it.

It will not record any personal information; I will use it to get insights through aggregated data.
As a data marketer, the main goal is to use a data-driven approach to improve the product.

I don’t know how easy it will be to get people's consent; I will just clearly ask for it.

One of the aspects of development that I would like to maintain is rapid iterations.
Given the time development is taking and the amount of my free time, I have decided to lighten the MVP shared in the previous update post.

I won’t develop any stats functionality in this 1.0.0 version. The app will allow users to log, edit, remove a drink, and rate it. That’s it.

I should have a testable app in one week.

If you have any suggestions, questions, or answers, feel free to reach me. I would love to hear your feedback.

Drinklytics is an Android and iOS app for remembering one's drinking. Whether it's beer, wine or hard liquor, with drinklytics you memorize every drink.
